The application of ketimine derivatives of amino acids to peptide synthesis

Schiff bass condensates of some 2-hydroxyaryl ketones with amino acids have been prepared. The reaction has been shown to proceed without racemization and most of the derivatives could be isolated in their free acid form^ Their unusual stability is ascribed to the presence of a strong intramolecular hydrogen bond. The ketimines derived from D~phenylglycine vjere found to decarboxylate at room temperature •
