The natural photosynthetic systems utilise protein scaffolds to hold their components, which self assemble to form complex structures. Artificial protein maquettes offer the possibility of producing similarly sophisticated molecular assemblies, containing lightharvesting pigments and catalysts for charge separation and energy storage, with a potential application in fuel production using solar energy.
