This project aims to investigate the use of organic ionic plastic crystals (OIPCs) in electrodes for solid state batteries and supercapacitors. Numerous features make OIPC electrolytes advantageous for use in batteries, these include non-flammability, non-leakage, possible higher temperature operation, mechanical strength, negligible volatility, high thermal and electrochemical stability. While OIPCs have been investigated as electrolyte materials, their incorporation into electrodes for all-solid-state batteries has not yet been investigated. There is lack of understanding of their properties within an electrode structure, especially the nature of their ionic motion and transport and the effect of the addition of lithium salts and conductive carbon fillers.
