Fine motor skills are essential for daily life activities and shape the foundations for children’s independence in the early stages of life. The purpose of the Doctorate thesis was to contribute to the evidence-base in early fine motor development, including the understanding of children’s progression, methodology of supportive strategies and assessment of children’s fine motor abilities. In addition to the general introduction, literature review and general discussion, the thesis incorporates five studies focused on increasing understanding and support for fine motor development in early childhood education and care settings.
