Exploiting distributed memory architecture to support object-oriented concepts

This thesis describes an approach to harness the power of the transputer and Occam to support Object-oriented (00) concepts. It is a specific solution to the more general problem of exploiting distributed memory architectures to support the Object-oriented paradigm. The approach is a mixed one in which a design method based on emerging Object-oriented design methodologies is developed and used to capture 0 0 as well as parallel features of a typical problem domain. The design is then implemented in a non-object-oriented parallel language, Occam, on a network of transputers. Some testing and evaluation is done on the translation from design to implementation and an assessment is made of the extend to which the approach can be generalised.
