The early chapters give surveys of the historical development, slowing down, and resonance aspects of reactor theory. The theory of renewal processes is developed and the application of renewal theory to the estimation of neutron diffusion time is discussed as a mathematical example of the same type of problem encountered with the infinitely dilute resonance integral.
