It has now been 10 years since the first study on the cost and affordability of a gluten free diet in Australian as published by researchers at the University of Wollongong.
At that time, researchers found that the cost of a gluten free healthy food basket containing all foods required for four reference families was significantly more expensive than a gluten containing basket. Five gluten free food staples were also significantly more expensive.
We repeated the costings in 2024 for the five core gluten free (GF) food staples.
