I have crossed an ocean I have lost my tongue from the root of the old one a new one has sprung (Grace Nichols, ‘Epilogue’) To say I am against American terrorism or state terror is not to say that I am with the suicide bombers — it simply means I am opposed to all forms of terrorism. And it is this space, a space to be sane, to voice and organize against all forms of oppression, that we have to fight for (Mukoma wa Ngugi, ‘Africa and the War on Terror’)
