Conservatism in Australia

chapter
posted on 2024-11-16, 05:41 authored by Gregory MelleuishGregory Melleuish
It would seem to be a truth universally acknowledged that Australians do not want to be known as conservatives. They much prefer to be known as liberals. Unlike the United Kingdom and Canada, Australia does not possess a political party with Conservative in its title. There seems to be something about the word conservative which is not attractive to many Australians. They would seem to be more focused on moving towards a better fut:ure than in conserving what is best about what has come before.
