Abstract
The Labor Party crisis left few Labor leaders unscathed. Whitlam’s credibility, as the man who sacked his own ministers over the Arab loans affair, was seriously damaged. Hawke gained nothing and lost a lot from his overeagerriess to take over the leadership and the crude advocacy on his behalf of the Murdoch press.
