Abstract
ALR's 'Local Cultures' supplement (ALR 130, July) takes a broad definition of 'culture': it is what counts as culture for those who participate in it. This definition would seem to have much to recommend it. It is inclusive and nonevaluative, accommodates a diversity of interests and values and avoids any imposed and elitist notions of excellence.
