Abstract

Highly activated MgH2 was synthesized by ball-milling Mg with Ti0.4Cr0.15Mn0.15V0.3 alloy under 30 atm hydrogen pressure for 5 h. The catalyzed MgH2showed improved absorption/desorption properties, desorbing 6.15 wt.% hydrogen in 100 min at 250°C and absorbing 5.66 wt.% hydrogen within 150 min even at 80°C. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy results revealed that the nanosized Ti0.4Cr0.15Mn0.15V0.3 alloy were embedded in the Mg aggregates, which increase the hydrogen atomic diffusivity in the bulk Mg, resulting in the improved kinetics.
