Abstract
The field of early literacy has enjoyed tremendous growth over the past two decades, as evidenced by the impressive body of work documented in the three volumes of this handbook. In line with contemporary trends in developmental science, as eloquently summarized by Morrison (2009), conceptual, methodological, and analytical advances have presented new research priorities and possibilities.
