Background: Speakers at the Power to the People: The Legacy of 1968 workshop, held at the University of Wollongong in 2008, examined some of the social and political legacies of the period including women’s liberation, the labour movement and anti-racism. 1968 was a tumultuous year that saw international student riots, demonstrations, the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy and the escalation of the Vietnam War. Speakers Michael Matteson and Rowan Cahill spoke about their experiences refusing to be drafted for the Vietnam War and Michael Tubbs’ book ASIO: The Enemy Within was launched by Jack Mundey.
