Background: The Connor conference explored the legacy of Rex Connor, a local Labor politician, noted for his role in the Whitlam Government as the Minister for Minerals and Energy and the notorious ‘Loans Affair’ which played a part in the constitutional crisis of 1975. His forceful personality earned him the soubriquet ‘the Strangler’. The poster is signed by Gough Whitlam and Lenox Hewitt, chosen by Connor as the first secretary of the Department of Minerals and Energy.
