Abstract
The eye health of Indigenous Australians is an ongoing concern, with surveys of remote Indigenous communities reporting significantly higher rates of visual impairment and blindness compared with the urban Australian population. Cataracts remain a significant cause of preventable blindness in these communities. It is important that health practitioners working in these areas are aware of vision impairment issues, are able to take a detailed history to determine possible causes and can appropriately refer patients in a timely manner.
