Abstract
Johann Christian Rei!(1759 -1813), the man who gave the discipline of psychiatry its name, was a pioneer whose ideas were remarkably advanced for their time and still have application today. Dubbed the German Pinel, Reil made contributions to medicine physiology and psychiatry with his work on neuroanatomy, medicine, therapeutics and mental illness.
