Abstract

History Wars would seem to be a feature of the modern West. They are very odd beasts. While they purport to be about the past, in reality they are about the present and the future. That should not surprise us as the study of his tory is itself as much about. the future as it is about the past. We cannot know what the future will be like, but we do have a fair knowledge of the past. It is natural to use the past as a foundation which can be used not only to predict the future but also, if one is sufficiently full of hubris, to attempt to mould it.
