Abstract

This chapter will examine the prescriptive and enforcement powers of coastal states in maritime zones under national jurisdiction as described int he United Nations Conventioin on the Law of the Sea (LOSC). These zones are internal waters, territorial waters, the contiguous zone, the exclusive economic zone, archipelagic waters and the continental shelf. There will also be consideration of special regimes for archipelagic waters, and for safety zones around offshore installations.
