Abstract

States which enjoy maritime domains face the constant threat of illegal activity within their waters. Threats range from modern versions of ancient pursuits such as piracy and illegal fishing through to sophisticated operations of globalised criminal networks illegally moving drugs or involved in people smuggling or wildlife trafficking, as well as marine pollution or biosecurity security incidents.
