Abstract

Re: Legislative Assembly Committee on Law and Safety Inquiry into 'Measures to Reduce alcohol and Drug-Related Violence': Submission on Assault Causing Death and Fines for Anti-Social Behaviour.

This submission relates to the Committee's Terms of Reference numbers 2-5. In particular, the submission deals with two aspects of the NSW Government's plan to tackle drug and alcohol-related violence announced on 21 January 2014: the introduction of an Assault Causing Death ('ACD') offence with an aggravated version whilst intoxicated; and increased on-the-spot fines for anti-social behaviour.l These two initiatives were introduced by the Crimes and Other Legislation Amendment (Assault and Intoxication) Act 2014 (NSW) ('the Act') which was passed by the NSW Parliament on 30 January 2014.
