Abstract
For Mr Preston, part of the thrill of a special outing was studying the paper every night to see what was offering and then the few short days of preparation and anticipation that preceded the actual outing itself. There wasn't a lot of choice because he had to get the right combi· nation of age and walking distance but he usually managed to get a special outing about once a month.
