A comprehensive assessment tool for solar PV impacts on low voltage three phase distribution networks
Modern low voltage (LV) distribution networks are experiencing significant solar photovoltaic (PV) integration. Analysis of changing network behavior, resulting from daylong variation of feeder loads and PV outputs are becoming essential to capture the network response throughout the day under high PV penetration. A comprehensive tool has been presented in this paper to investigate the daylong changes in network behavior due to PV integration. The tool is capable of modeling the asymmetry and unbalance related complexities of distribution networks and also the effect of single phase PV on three phase distribution feeders. Analysis of PV impact has been performed using an Australian low voltage network with integrated solar PV resources. Results show that PV output during midday introduces significant changes in network behaviour in terms of voltage rise, voltage unbalance, reverse power flows, and feeder losses.
