Abstract

Given the nature of the crisis facing the academic nursing profession, and the various ideas being suggested to deal with the problem, this paper seeks to think outside the existing paradigm. If there is a general consensus that the traditional academic system does not help build leadership, research and teaching capacity within single individual academics, then it seems timely to think about how these needs can be met within a whole school instead, thus creating more dynamic flexible career pathways.
