RESEARCH IMPACT STATEMENT

Research Background
Time_Place_Space 3 is the third residential laboratory of a national initiative challenging, invigorate and strengthen hybrid arts practice in Australia. Australian artists working with performance, installation, and new media technologies facilitated by Australian and international practitioners worked together for two weeks at AIT Arts, Adelaide. TPS3 sought to seed new collaborations and productions with the capacity to tour nationally and internationally; build new networks for artists, curators and presenters; broaden and diversify audiences; and establish an international reputation for artists working in this field.

Research Contribution
TPS3 built on the knowledge and experience gained from the previous two laboratories providing a stronger conceptual framework and clearer vision of the relationship of the project to the field of hybrid arts practice. The seeding of new projects with national and international reach and influence continues to be an important outcome, with the growth in opportunities for Australian artists working in innovative areas of art practice. A deeper understanding of the collaborative process particularly in areas of cross and inter-cultural engagement was observed.

Research Significance
An initiative of the New Media Arts Board of the Australia Council for the Arts, and managed by Performance Space Sydney, TPS3 was supported by new site partner, AIT Arts, Adelaide who provided substantial in-kind support including excellent technological and rehearsal facilities, a technical support staff person, and two students on secondment. TPS3 was also funded by Arts SA, the state funding agency. The success of the project meant the initiative was extended by two years.
