RESEARCH IMPACT STATEMENT

Research Background
STRAIGHTCUT is a photographic series Redgate began in 2001; STRAIGHTCUT 11, 2006 was new work produced for this solo exhibition at Sherman Galleries, Sydney 2006.

Research Contribution
Redgate created a new body of 10 photographic C-type mural works for solo exhibition. This new work was accompanied by a catalogue with the essay ‘Jacky Redgate: STRAIGHTCUT II’ written by Michael Desmond and published by Sherman Galleries, Sydney. ‘The dialogue between architecture and social experience, and between sculpture and photography as distinct visual genres, was a vital impetus for the production of STRAIGHTCUT. Perhaps the most formal and severe works she has produced in her career, STRAIGHTCUT is a logical extension of Redgate’s ongoing fascination with the relationship between geometry and visual perception and her relationship with Modernism.’ Michael Desmond

Research Significance
This work was subsequently invited into several key exhibitions including:
2007 - Full Frontal – images from within the studio, Plimsoll Gallery, University of Tasmania, Hobart;
2007 - Redlands Westpac Art Prize, Mosman Gallery, Sydney. Curated by Paul Zika;
2006 - 2006 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art: 21st Century Modern, Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide; Curator by Linda Michael.
