Abstract
Nick Greiner can be seen as the most interesting of political creatures: a Premier who attempted to reform the nature of politics in New South Wales, a politician who wanted to be seen as above politics, and a campaigner against corruption who lost office because a tribunal that he had established to fight corruption found him to be corrupt. Greiner attempted to change both the style and substance of politics in New South Wales. He had a vision of a New South Wales run as an efficient business enterprise. The role of government would be to rule in the public interest, prevent special interest groups from capturing the political agenda and to "govern for the people at large".
