Research Contribution
‘My Darling Patricia’ utilise puppetry, installation and performance to create arresting and redolent images, weaving intricate emotional narratives in a performance environment that enfolds their audience in an intimate experience. Viewed in traverse, ‘Night Garden’ was performed in stage set that created an Australian suburban, gothic landscape within the shell of a burned-out house
Research Background
As artistic consultant and dramaturg, Ryan worked with the key creatives on the integration sound-scape, video, puppetry and live performance at each stage of the development process, as well as during the final rehearsal process.
Research Significance
The research and creative development of Night Garden was supported through a number of artist in residence programs undertaken respectively at Performance Space, Sydney, Arts House - Melbourne, Hot House ‘A Month in the Country Artist in Residence program, Victoria and Bundanon Artists Trust, NSW. Night Garden premiered at CarriageWorks in Sydney and Melbourne’s Art House Meat Market in March 2009. It was reviewed in the Sydney Morning Herald, RealTime, and in the alternative press.
