Simulation of multi-layer sandwich structures with square core
An attempt has been made in optimising a finite element model based on the ANSYS/LS?DYNA code to analyse the impact loading response of a multi-layer sandwich structure with square core cells. A parametric study of single and two?layer sandwich structures along with the variation of the number of cells is carried out in order to gain a better understanding of the relationship between the number of cells and the energy absorption capability of the structures. Attention has also been paid to the accurate simulation of the folding mechanism of the square core cells. This research can hence give a model of the impact loading response and the energy absorption capability of a multi-layer sandwich structure.
