Abstract

We calculate the electron density responsefunction of electron-hole multilayer systems in the presenceof spin-orbit interaction modeled by Rashba terms. Itis found that the spin-orbit coupling leads to a redistributionof the absorption spectral weight between the particleholeexcitation and the plasmon excitation. The interplay ofCoulomb interactions and spin-orbit interaction resulted ina suppression or enhancement of the optical absorption dueto plasmons. Our result indicates that the spin-orbit couplingcan serve as a tuning mechanism for opticalabsorption in spintronics systems.
