Abstract
A study into the effects of surface ash formation on the kinetics of coke dissolution in liquid iron has been undertaken. The ash structure has been characterised as the coke dissolution reaction proceeds based on a series of dip tests whereby cokes were immersed in a liquid iron-carbon alloy for a period of time, at a representative ironmaking temperature, then drop quenched, sectioned and polished for optical and electro-optical examination.
