Abstract
Supply chain integration aims to optimize material flows and information flows within the focal company and across the supply chain. This exploratory field research investigates the factors that inhibit internal supply chain integration in practice. A conceptual model judged capable of capturing all of the identified barriers is developed; which is tested using multiple rigorous data collection techniques in six case study organisations. Two follow up studies evaluate the sequence and the effectiveness of the change processes used to mitigate the internal barriers within the focal companies.
