Abstract
People leaders in this organisation are technical experts in their field whether it is Medical, Legal, Claims, Actuarial or other disciplines and increasingly represent diverse backgrounds in terms of age, gender and ethnicity. Despite their expertise, most have had little in-depth or formal training in areas of leadership and interpersonal skills, which are core to the role of today's people leader. Combining coaching and mentoring along with 360° feedback1 on leadership interpersonal behaviour has provided a structured, evidence-based approach to leadership development, which is beginning to pay rich dividends in changing the conversations that people leaders are having with their employees and shifting the leadership culture from the role of technical manager to the professional leader.
