Modernism and Colonial Modernity in Early Twentieth Century Japan
This chapter surveys the development of modernism in art, graphic art, literature and poetry in early twentieth century Japan. I situate modernism in Japan in the context of modernism as a transnational cultural movement and in the context of Japan as a colonising power in East Asia.
