The Sanyo Work In
Abstract
In July this year, workers occupied the Sanyo factory in Wodonga in protest at retrenchments by the company. The following interview with a woman shop steward was conducted during the occupation in the canteen where the workers slept at night. It explains the background to the work-in and how the originally conservative workers developed their own understanding of the need for the work-in and of the importance of unions.
