OPINIONS OF THE OUTCASTS OF FOOLGARAH diverge considerably from those who regard it as an outrageously comic novel to those who see it simply asithe dirty wanderings of Hardy’s mind. At least, this is the opinion we get from reading some newspaper reviews (the newspapers seem reluctant to review it) and from talking generally.
