Profile: Michael Jackson
Abstract
Who would want to be Michael Jackson? He is a man who has apparently remained emotionally in suspended animation since the age of ten; a boy who recrafted his face because he was tired of being called Big Nose by his brothers; a gifted writer, producer, dancer and singer who only measures the success of a project—and his own self-worth, apparently—by sales figures. 1979's Off The Wall sold seven million. Three years later Thriller became the best selling album of all time—over 15 million. The subsequent Bad (11 million) and Dangerous (final tally unknown, but so far much lower than anticipated) have failed to match the success of Thriller.
