Abstract

Angola has pro-W estern Zaire and Zambia to its north-east and east, and Namibia and South Africa to the south. It is a potentially rich country which, since independence in 1975, has been purposefully prevented - chiefly by the United States and South Africa - from achieving its potentialities. It has oil, diamonds and iron, and vast resources of land capable of producing both a range of export commodities and sufficient food for its relatively small population of 6-7 million.
