Abstract

Can these actuator devices operate as "artificial muscles" to produce human movement and even develop the superhuman abilities of Steve Austin, the "bionic man" on the TV series The Six-Million Dollar Manl Manipulating human movement is, of course, a mammoth task. In today's highly technological world, we still do not have adequate lightweight, low-powerconsumption materials or technologies that can be strapped on to assist in human movement (50).
